The zkSync development team has successfully tackled and resolved a network glitch in the zkSync Era platform, ensuring that “no funds were at risk,” as detailed in a post by zkSync Development.
The network glitch transpired on December 25 at 05:50 UTC, according to the development team. Following the incident, the protocol experienced a temporary cessation of operations for a few hours.
The development team clarified that the problem arose from the inadvertent triggering of an automated safety mechanism, which is an integral component of the network’s security protocols.
Network Glitch Triggered by Automated Safety Check
The glitch’s root cause was identified as an edge-case bug in how the operator computed the state update. The zkSync Development team explained in their post, “The protocol’s computation was entirely correct… However, a subtle bug was present in how the operator was also performing the computation.”
The post elaborated, “This bug was identified, addressed, and the sequencer resumed processing transactions, catching up with those that had to wait in the mempool due to submissions before the issue was resolved.”
The resolution was swiftly implemented, and the post noted, “Once the issue was fixed, an updated version of the node software was immediately published for other node operators to deploy the changes.”
Furthermore, the zkSync team acknowledged that the initial highly defensive posture established for the mainnet launch might need reconsideration given the network’s enhanced maturity. However, the paramount assurance was that “no funds were ever at risk.”
The post concluded with an expression of apologies to affected developers and users, coupled with deep appreciation for the community’s patience and offers to assist during the incident.
Pudgy Penguins to Launch Pudgy World on zkSync Era
The popular NFT project, Pudgy Penguins, has announced the upcoming alpha launch of its web3 game, Pudgy World, based on zkSync Era.
As per their press release, the alpha launch is scheduled for Q1 of 2024. Notably, players will not be obligated to own Pudgy Penguins NFTs to participate in the game, although holders may receive certain benefits.
Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz expressed the significance of the alpha launch, stating, “The alpha launch of Pudgy World is a massive step forward for the Web3 and NFT space. Pudgy Penguin owners will be playing with their Pudgy Toys, without any pre-existing knowledge of the blockchain technology it is built on.” This indicates an effort to make the game accessible to a broader audience, even those not well-versed in blockchain technology.
