Winklevoss Capital, a venture firm established by twin siblings Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, has injected $4.5 million into a non-league soccer team owned by cryptocurrency podcaster Peter McCormack.
Real Bedford Football Club (RBFC), based in the UK, revealed that both Winklevoss brothers will now serve as co-owners alongside McCormack, according to an announcement.
“Peter’s unwavering faith in Bitcoin and its potential to propel RBFC towards the Premier League resonates with us,” stated Tyler Winklevoss in a press release. “Since our initial discussions over two years ago, Peter has demonstrated his adeptness in building a thriving club, and we’re eager to collaborate with him as co-owners,” Tyler added.
Supporting the Underdog Team in Football
Real Bedford, a non-league football club situated in Bedford, UK, came under McCormack’s ownership in 2021, with his ambitious aim of elevating the team to the football league.
In their inaugural season, Real Bedford clinched a league and cup double, securing them a promotion to the Spartan South Midlands Premier League. Notably, the Premier League stands as the pinnacle of the English football league hierarchy.
“Observing Peter’s strides with Real Bedford and his emphasis on community-building has been truly uplifting,” remarked Cameron Winklevoss.
“Our confidence in this venture stems from his capacity to turn vision into tangible results. Our investment isn’t solely in a football club; it’s in the aspiration to bring Premier League football to Bedford. We firmly trust Peter’s leadership to transform this aspiration into reality,” Cameron affirmed.
