Trump Expected to Attend Bitcoin 2024 Convention in Nashville Next Month

Former U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly in talks to participate as a speaker at the Bitcoin 2024 convention in Nashville, set for July. The event, organized by Bitcoin Magazine, gathers notable figures from both politics and industry within the cryptocurrency sector. As per Axios, Trump is currently negotiating his attendance at the conference scheduled from July 25-27.

Trump to Become “Crypto President”

Bitcoin Magazine, the organizer of the event, has not yet confirmed Donald Trump’s attendance, but according to the report, two sources familiar with the matter have revealed ongoing discussions about his potential participation.

The convention takes place against a backdrop of increasing political interest in cryptocurrencies, with Trump recently voicing strong support for Bitcoin and criticizing President Joe Biden’s regulatory stance on crypto.

Trump’s potential speech at the event could be viewed as a strategic move in his efforts to garner support from the crypto community ahead of upcoming elections. During a fundraising event in San Francisco, where Craft Ventures’ general partner David Sacks and tech billionaire Chamath Palihapitiya co-hosted, Trump reportedly positioned himself as the potential “crypto president.”

At the gathering, Trump purportedly emphasized his commitment to advancing the crypto industry and cautioned against what he described as the Democratic Party’s inclination towards imposing strict regulations.

Potential Shift in Position on Crypto

According to a report from TD Cowen, despite his current pro-crypto stance, Donald Trump might shift back to being a crypto skeptic if he wins the election. The report highlighted that Trump’s statements about cryptocurrency during the first presidential debate of the 2024 election will be crucial in signaling his regulatory intentions.

The report stated, “If [Trump] suggests anything other than total support, this could fuel concerns that he will return to the skeptical approach seen during his first term if re-elected.”

This suggests that how Trump addresses cryptocurrency during the upcoming debates could significantly influence perceptions of his future regulatory stance on crypto if he returns to office.

What we write about

I want to save money. Will cryptocurrency work?

Cryptocurrency is essentially virtual money that operates in a decentralized manner, not through a bank but directly on multiple independent computers.

Every cryptocurrency has two main components: the units of digital exchange called “coins” and the network within which the exchange takes place. These units can be transferred between wallets and exchanged on exchanges. The networks in which these coins exist are called blockchains, which translates to “chains of blocks.”
