As the leaves change and the air gets crisp, coffee enthusiasts worldwide herald the return of the Pumpkin Spice Latte season. This year marks a special milestone for Starbucks’ iconic beverage as it turns two decades old. To commemorate this, Starbucks is venturing into the digital realm by unveiling unique non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles.
The American coffee titan is set to introduce Pumpkin Spice Latte digital stamps via Starbucks Odyssey, its cutting-edge Web3 rewards and loyalty platform. This exclusive offering is available only to Odyssey members, though nonmembers have the chance to get onboard by joining the Starbucks Odyssey waitlist.
Each collectible NFT from “The PSL Collection: Spiced Stamp” is priced at $20. Prospective buyers have a range of payment methods at their disposal, including ETH, balances from Nifty Gateway or Gemini, traditional credit card payments, or the option to buy now and pay later.
Starbucks is delving deeper into the digital collectible space with its unique offerings that capture the essence of the fall season. Four distinct NFTs will be up for grabs, each symbolizing a variant of autumn’s signature beverage: Spiced, Iced, Steamed, and Whipped.
Nifty Gateway, the NFT marketplace hosting these digital collectibles, indicates that members have the option to buy up to 4 Stamps from the ensemble, thereby giving enthusiasts the chance to own each of the four exclusive designs.
While the suspense around the designs remains, eager buyers won’t have to wait long. Starbucks has announced that the designs will be unveiled by October 10, 2023.
Further sweetening the deal, the announcement adds a touch of intrigue: “For every Stamp acquired, 250 points will be added to your account. And for those who venture to purchase the entire set of four designs, a special opportunity lies ahead.” This promises additional rewards or perhaps a unique experience for collectors who go all in.
Starbucks is blending its signature coffee experience with the burgeoning world of digital collectibles. By minting their NFTs on the Ethereum scaling network, Polygon, and selling them via the well-known platform Nifty Gateway, the coffee giant is making a clear foray into the digital and decentralized space.
Starbucks first revealed its intentions to step into the blockchain arena with the announcement of its loyalty program, Starbucks Odyssey, in the previous year. This was not just any loyalty program, but one fueled by blockchain. They rolled out a beta version of this platform in December, giving select members a taste of what was to come.
Starbucks Odyssey offers its members “journeys”. These aren’t literal trips but a series of digital engagements such as interactive games or quizzes. Successfully navigating these journeys rewards members with ‘journey stamps’ – digital collectibles reminiscent of travel stamps in a physical passport.
The presence of Starbucks in the NFT marketplace is evident through a range of offerings available on Nifty Gateway. These digital collectibles vary in price, starting as low as $7.44 for a Constant Conversation Airdrop Stamp and going up to a substantial $768 for the Holiday Cheer Stamp.
Brady Brewer, Starbucks’ executive vice president and chief marketing officer, expressed the brand’s unique approach to the Web3 domain. He mentioned, “Our integration with the Starbucks Rewards ecosystem and the foundation of the experience in coffee, connection, and community sets us apart in the Web3 realm. We’re not just jumping on a trend; we’re enriching our relationship with members and offering them a novel way to connect with Starbucks.”
