Victor Wembanyama, the rising star of the San Antonio Spurs, has entered the NBA Top Shot spotlight. After an impressive six-figure non-fungible token (NFT) sale on Sorare NBA, Wembanyama made his debut on NBA Top Shot.
His introduction to NBA Top Shot occurred through the Rookie Debut: Headliners Web pack, which was released for sale on Tuesday at 3 pm Eastern Time (8 pm UTC). Priced at $79 each, a total of 2,445 packs were made available by Dapper Labs. The pack features highlights from several newer NBA players, including Brandon Miller, Scoot Henderson, Amen Thompson, Ausar Thompson, and Chet Holmgren.
Each pack contains five NFTs, showcasing video highlights from various NBA players, with one of those moments featuring a highlight from one of the mentioned rookies. The high demand for these packs was evident, as they were sold out just four hours after their release, as announced by NBA Top Shot on Twitter.
Wembanyama making headlines with the Spurs
Victor Wembanyama has been making waves with the San Antonio Spurs, notably achieving a remarkable 38-point performance in a recent game. His impact extends to the digital realm, where his first single-edition “Unique” digital trading card on the blockchain-based NFT game Sorare NBA fetched over $110,000 at auction. This surpassed the previous record of $67,333 paid for his top physical trading card.
NBA Top Shot, an officially licensed NBA NFT collectibles platform on the Flow blockchain, gained significant attention during the NFT market’s bull phase in 2021. While sales on the platform have seen a decline since then, Wembanyama’s debut on NBA Top Shot has the potential to reignite interest and excitement among NFT sports card collectors, showcasing the continued allure of digital collectibles in the sports world.
