Renowned podcaster Joe Rogan has retained his Bitcoin (BTC) holdings without engaging in any selling activity, as evidenced by on-chain data spanning almost a decade.
In 2014, the mixed martial arts (MMA) commentator distributed a QR code rendition of his public Bitcoin address across social media platforms. Examining this address through mempool.space reveals that Rogan has executed 468 transactions from 2014 to 2022, yet has refrained from spending any portion of his Bitcoin stash.
Joe Rogan’s Bitcoin Stash
This discovery could imply one of two possibilities—Joe Rogan may either be resolutely holding onto his Bitcoin or, less optimistically, could have misplaced the private key necessary to access his Bitcoin wallet.
The latter scenario wouldn’t be uncommon or unexpected. Crypto wallet technology was still nascent at the time, with Trezor introducing the very first hardware wallet in July 2014.
Moreover, Bitcoin wasn’t as valuable back then, trading at approximately $829 per coin when Rogan initiated his first transaction, before experiencing significant declines throughout the year. He amassed the majority of his coins during this period, totaling 5.24 BTC overall, which would now be valued at $226,295 based on current prices.
While this amount represents a substantial increase from its initial value, it remains relatively modest considering Rogan’s recent business ventures. He recently inked another multiyear deal with Spotify for $250 million, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. This new agreement purportedly grants him the opportunity to host The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE) on additional streaming platforms such as YouTube and Apple Podcasts, along with a revenue-sharing arrangement tied to advertising sales.
When Will Bitcoin Reach JRE?
Joe Rogan has featured several Bitcoin-focused podcast episodes with crypto educator and author Andreas Antonopolous, although he hasn’t delved deeply into the subject since 2016. Nonetheless, he has casually mentioned it on multiple occasions and provided platforms for various guests to share their perspectives on crypto.
In a January 2022 podcast, Rogan expressed optimism about the future of cryptocurrencies, stating, “I have a lot of hope for cryptocurrencies, I really do.” He admitted, “I don’t know much about them, but Bitcoin and Ethereum seem to be the ones people talk the most.”
In May of the same year, Rogan speculated that the U.S. government likely views Bitcoin with apprehension, as it hadn’t anticipated a decentralized currency gaining as much traction as it has. He also mentioned receiving $100,000 in BTC for a comedy show.
However, Rogan hasn’t shown much enthusiasm for NFTs. In June 2022, he expressed his lack of interest, stating, “I can have that photo, and I can have it on my phone.”
