G2A, a well-known gaming keys distributor, has recently introduced “Geekverse,” a marketplace for NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) associated with Web3 games.
The primary objective of Geekverse, as outlined in a press release, is to offer exposure to Web3 and NFT games handpicked by the G2A team. This initiative enables gamers to delve into the realm of blockchain gaming and will showcase NFTs from games that have established partnerships with G2A.
G2A CEO Bartosz Skwarczek highlighted the company’s interest in the blockchain gaming sector, dating back to the launch of the NFT gaming project Cryptokitties in November 2017. Skwarczek stated, “We wanted to find out how closely gamers are related to technology and concepts of blockchain gaming. It turned out that players are quite familiar with the blockchain gaming industry, and a significant portion of them already play web3 games and have even engaged in NFT trading from games.”
Bartosz Skwarczek further elaborated, “Considering these factors, we decided to create an online space for enthusiasts of decentralized games – a place where users will find information about the best web3 games, and most importantly, they will have the opportunity to buy and sell digital assets associated with these games.”
Geekverse, in addition to facilitating the purchase and sale of NFTs from collections linked to G2A’s gaming partners, will host contests, giveaways, and in-game item drops. The marketplace has committed to honoring royalties established by NFT collection creators and will temporarily refrain from charging transaction fees on NFT sales.
The currently supported blockchains for Geekverse include Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Chain. Furthermore, the announcement hints at future plans to introduce G2A-themed NFTs to the platform.
G2A has outlined its future plans for the NFT marketplace, indicating a commitment to further developments. These plans include expanding the number of supported blockchains, introducing support for fiat payments, and providing tools to assist partners in promoting their NFT collections.
The increasing interest from traditional gaming distributors in Web3 gaming is noticeable, with examples like Gods Unchained being added to the Epic Games Store in June. Gods Unchained, a collectible trading card game leveraging NFTs, offers gameplay similar to popular titles such as Magic: The Gathering and Hearthstone.
In a similar trend, the Google Play Store started accepting NFT games with certain restrictions one month later. The store allows games that offer NFTs for sale or as earnings but explicitly disallows gambling with NFTs.
