Football Star Cristiano Ronaldo Plays Football with Binance NFT Holders Amid Lawsuit

Cristiano Ronaldo recently engaged in a unique event involving holders of his non-fungible tokens (NFTs) during a Binance-sponsored occasion, all while facing a lawsuit from several investors in the United States seeking damages.

On January 25th, Ronaldo took part in a football training session with selected NFT holders in Lisbon, joined by Binance ambassador Khaby Lame and footballer Maria Markovic.

This special event, known as “Train with CR7,” was linked to the CR7 Forever Zone Collection and the GOAT NFT Series. The holder of the Golden Ticket, along with four randomly chosen users, had the opportunity to play alongside the football superstar.

During the event, Ronaldo imparted various football techniques to participants, including penalty decisions, with Khaby Lame serving as the goalkeeper.

Fans were ecstatic about this extraordinary opportunity to practice their favorite sport with one of the greatest players in the world.

Ronaldo shared highlights of the session on his Instagram page, expressing his gratitude for the holders of his rarest NFTs and describing it as an incredible fan experience set up by the exchange.

Ronaldo’s NFTs Journey

In June 2022, the renowned former football player, who had previously played for Real Madrid and Manchester United, unveiled a multi-year NFT partnership with Binance. The former CEO of Binance, Changpeng Zhao, lauded the sports star for possessing one of the most devoted fan bases, highlighting his skill and authenticity.

In response, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his desire to introduce novel experiences to his fans, emphasizing his long-standing interest in the NFT platform. He remarked, “My relationship with the fans is of utmost importance to me, so the concept of offering unparalleled experiences and access through this NFT platform is something I’ve eagerly wanted to be a part of.”

NFT Leads to Lawsuit in the United States

However, one year later, Cristiano Ronaldo finds himself entangled in a lawsuit in the United States related to his promotion of NFTs in partnership with Binance.

The plaintiffs allege that he played a role in the offering and sale of unregistered securities in collaboration with Binance, and they are seeking damages exceeding $1 billion.

In 2022, the least expensive digital collectibles were priced at $77, but their value plummeted to $1 a year later. Investors argue that Ronaldo’s involvement contributed to a 500% surge in searches.

The plaintiffs assert, “Ronaldo’s promotions solicited or assisted Binance in soliciting investments in unregistered securities by encouraging his millions of followers, fans, and supporters to invest with the Binance platform.”

On January 16th, the plaintiffs attempted to serve the sports star through alternative means, such as email and social media, as locating his residence in Saudi Arabia had proven to be a challenging task.

What we write about

I want to save money. Will cryptocurrency work?

Cryptocurrency is essentially virtual money that operates in a decentralized manner, not through a bank but directly on multiple independent computers.

Every cryptocurrency has two main components: the units of digital exchange called “coins” and the network within which the exchange takes place. These units can be transferred between wallets and exchanged on exchanges. The networks in which these coins exist are called blockchains, which translates to “chains of blocks.”
